Services
for Artists
Art buyers
considering works for purchase expect the art to be custom framed. This
is an expensive challenge for artists who display their work for show
and sales.
Post Road Framers
can help with our
Framing-to-Show
Program.
Intended for
artists planning to show multiple works, the program reduces the costs
of custom framing by up to 30%. Savings from purchasing frame moulding
in quantities of at least 30 feet are passed on to the artist.
Typically, 30 feet of moulding is sufficient for 3 to 4 medium size
works. The stock used is the same high quality Larson-Juhl, Roma, and
Nurre Caxton stock that we offer our retail customers.
Framing-to-Show
includes quantity discounts for matboard. Mats are available at 32 by
40 inches; usually, up to four 16 by 20 inch mats can be cut from stock
that size. When the same mat is used on multiple works, proportionate
savings are passed on to the artist.

Conservation Framing
Picture framing
provides an attractive presentation for art and objects, but it serves
another function as well: protection. Some protection is provided
simply because the artwork is encased behind glass, shielded from the
environment. But for valuable artwork (whether it is monetary or
sentimental value), what is going on inside the frame is also important.
Conservation framing
begins with the materials that will touch the art. This includes the
board that rests behind the art, the matboard that touches the front of
the art, and the adhesive or other material that holds the artwork in
place. All materials must be acid-free and stable, and the artwork
should be able to be removed from the framing without tearing, marking
or staining the art.
The glass used in
Conservation Framing can be an important part of the protection of the
art. Excessive light can be damaging to many types of artwork. Special
glass made for framing (called conservation glass, museum glass, or
something similar) has a coating that provides a block (but not a
complete barrier) of harmful UV rays
Do not assume that
Conservation Framing is expensive; the cost is often not much more than
ordinary framing, and the protection provided to your valuable artwork
is a worthwhile investment for the future.
